US gas-fired power burn intensity surges as fuel-switching capacity wanes

Gloomy news from Platts for NG bears. Looks like high prices won't cure themselves yet.


The latest observation is that high NG prices aren't prompting large scale fuel switching to coal.


And the fuel switching that is occurring seems to be drawing down coal stocks, which might boost coal prices going into winter and maintaining headroom for NG prices.
